چکیده

Pattern-based spatial modeling relies on training images as basic modeling component for generating geostatistical realizations. The methodology recognizes that working with the unit of a pattern aids its reproduction, particularly for large systems. In this paper improvements are made, in terms of both the computation time and conditioning, of a pattern-based simulation method that relies on the crosscorrelation-based simulation (CCSIM), introduced by Tahmasebi et al. (2012). The extension lies on the use of a multi-scale (MS) representation of the training image along a pattern projection strategy that is markedly different from the traditional multi-grid methods employed in the current methodologies, and proposes acceleration of the method by carrying out most of the computations in the Fourier space. In the proposed multi-scale representation, we transform the high-resolution training image into a pyramid of consecutively up-gridded views of the same image. The pyramid allows for rapid search of the patterns that can be superimposed over a shared overlap area with previously simulated patterns. A second advantage of the multi-scale view lies in data conditioning by means of a new hard datarelocation algorithm and the use of a co-template for looking for conditioning points ahead of the raster path employed in CCSIM. Using synthetic and real-field multi-million cell examples with sparse, as well as dense datasets, we investigate quantitatively how the improved algorithm performs with respect to CCSIM, as well as the traditional MP simulation algorithms. & 2014 Elsevier Ltd. CONFIGURATION OPTIMIZATION OF TRUSSES USING A MULTI HEURISTIC BASED SEARCH METHOD

Different methods are available for simultaneous optimization of cross-section, topology and geometry of truss structures. Since the search space for this problem is very large, the probability of falling in local optimum is considerably high. On the other hand, different types of design variables (continuous and discrete) lead to some difficulties in the process of optimization. In this articl...

A 3D code for mp simulation of continuous and categorical variables: FILTERSIM

In most petroleum and geoscience studies, the flow is controlled by the connectivity of extreme permeabilities (both high and low) associated with multiple-scale geological patterns. Hence, it is critical to model such patterns in order to predict successfully the flow performance. The new multiple-point geostatistical algorithm (FILTERSIM), which can handle both categorical and continuous vari...

A SGeMS code for pattern simulation of continuous and categorical variables: FILTERSIM

The new multiple-point geostatistical algorithm (FILTERSIM), which can handle both categorical and continuous variable training images, is implemented in the SGeMS software. The spatial patterns depicted by the training image are first summarized into a few filter scores; then classified into pattern groups in the filter score space. The sequential simulation approach proceeds by associating ea...

Categorical fracture orientation modeling: applied to an Iranian oil field

Fracture orientation is a prominent factor in determining the reservoir fluid flow direction in a formation because fractures are the major paths through which fluid flow occurs. Hence, a true modeling of orientation leads to a reliable prediction of fluid flow. Traditionally, various distributions are used for orientation modeling in fracture networks. Although they offer a fairly suitable est...

Spatial modelling of zonality elements based on compositional nature of geochemical data using geostatistical approach: a case study of Baghqloom area, Iran

Due to the existence of a constant sum of constraints, the geochemical data is presented as the compositional data that has a closed number system. A closed number system is a dataset that includes several variables. The summation value of variables is constant, being equal to one. By calculating the correlation coefficient of a closed number system and comparing it with an open number system, ...
